Vladimir Putin; Master of Animals

Jonathan Trayner MORE INFO

2014
performance

A performance lecture exploring the idea that Vladimir Putin is the premier artist of the Russian people and that he draws his shamanic power from the interactions with the animals that he is often photographed with. The work considers the relationship between power and visual representation in a hyper-saturated media age, presenting the thesis that Putin represents the highest and noblest virtues that one can desire, either in one's self or one's lover, and that the numerous attempts to parody this only reinforce the image. Putin has because he is everything you want to be. The performance was delivered with the assistance of a hobby horse and yapping dog.
